As the news came through the scoreboard at stadiummk, invited guests were left on tender hooks as Milton Keynes was the last successful city to be announced.

Immediately after the announcement in turn Pete Winkelman, Dr Ann Limb and Cllr Sam Crooks of the MK Bid Team said a few words of thanks before being interviewed by the media. John Cove was highly praised for his involvement with the bid and its success.

Statement on behalf of the Milton Keynes Dons Supporters Association by Chairperson John Brockwell:

The MKDSA were delighted to be invited by the club to represent the supporters' at today's World Cup 2018 event in stadiummk.

The recognition bestowed upon Milton Keynes by the 2018 bid team demonstrates aptly how far the club has progressed in the 6 years it's been located in MK.

It's now up to the city of Milton Keynes, and most of all its residents, to get behind the bid and adopt the enthusiastic persona of Pete Winkelman. We are a "can do" city and we need to demonstrate this to the world by progressing as a club both on and off pitch.

We already have a first team to be proud of, a ladies team that is becoming a force to be feared and nearly a dozen disability teams that are doing the city proud. The SET is working with youngsters whilst the "Playing for Success Scheme" is coming on leaps and bounds assisting the very young to the "silver surfers".

All these aspects of the club need to be fully in focus both locally and Nationally to help really put MK on the map.

Like all prudent SA's we need to ensure that the club does not over reach itself but for today let's all celebrate the success.

Congratulations to Pete and the MK bid team on their efforts so far - we all now need to get behind the club and support every aspect to make sure that this club is the success that we all know it deserves to be.

Cheer the lads on Saturday against Brentford and the ladies on Sunday in the FA Cup @ 1pm, Newport Pagnell. ALL teams are equally deserving of your support.

OK - Not the best photos in the world I'll admit though we did make Look East.

We were invited into seats for the announcement on the big screen which the outcome of our success was eagerly awaited.

Once Pete and the Bid Team said their thanks it was a withdrawal back inside whilst interviews were being conducted with Pete.
