The MK Dons Supporters Association will bring you a series of articles over the coming weeks about fan related football organisations.  Some are available to fans nationally whilst others are local to MK Dons Football Club.  The idea behind these articles is to inform fans what is available to enhance their enjoyment of the great game.

We start this week with an introduction to and news about the National Football Museum.  The museum was originally based outside Deepdale, the home of Preston North End Football Club in Lancashire and was founded to preserve, conserve and interpret several important collections ofassociation football memorabilia.

However, in 2009 the trustees voted to move the museum to the Urbis Exhibition Centre in Manchester City Centre.  Urbis was closed in February 2010 in preparation for the new National Football Museum and in April 2010 the museum's trustees confirmed the move to Manchester would go ahead. Meanwhile the trustees confirmed the closure of the Preston museum.

The new facility will be opening in Manchester in 2012, providing a world-class home for the greatest collection of football memorabilia ever assembled. More than 140,000 objects, works of art and photographs make up this unique collection and highlights include a shirt from the world's first international match, played in 1872; the 1966 World Cup Final ball and the shirt worn by Maradona during the 1986 ?Hand of God? quarter final match between England and Argentina will be on permanent display.

The museum will become one of Manchester?s ?must see? attractions, with three floors of objects, stories, ?hands on? interactives, and a changing temporary exhibition programme showing that it?s not just football ? fashion, art and photography all have a part to play in bringing the story to life. It will also become the home for photographer Stuart Clarke's 'Homes of Football' collection of images. Visitors will enjoy a distinctive retail, cafe and restaurant offer which will compete with Manchester?s best.

It will also provide a permanent home for its nationally-recognised Hall of Fame, with new legends being inducted in a prestigious awards ceremony every year.  The museum is due to open in 2012 and is expected to attract over 350,000 visitors per year. Entrance will be free with some paid for interactives helping to ensure that visitors enjoy one of the best days out in the city.

MKDSA Formation

On 23rd October 2003, thirty fans met at the National Hockey Stadium in Milton Keynes to establish a new supporters association following the arrival of Wimbledon Football Club (now renamed Milton Keynes Dons FC), from their former home at Selhurst Park in South London. A number of people volunteered to undertake roles as part of a steering committee to lead the association during its formation stages. In May 2004, the first full Annual General Meeting was held and Officers were elected by it's members

MKDSA Purpose

The purpose of the MK Dons Supporters Association is to provide an organised and family oriented supporters association for fans of Milton Keynes Dons Football Club.  The MKDSA aims to act as an independant voice for MK Dons supporters, ensuring that their views are represented with the Club and other organisations involved with the Dons.  It also aims to promote the Football Club within the community, increase levels of support and establish and maintain high quality services, communications and benefits for its members.
